Apparently this outfit was designed by Howard Greer in 1933 for Katharine Hepburn in her first starring roll. How cool is that? I love the jacket and I imagine wearing this type of garment in the Fall. Though perhaps a bit daring for me to pull off, but I'd love to try and make it. Not that I need a jacket and I don't even have time to sew for myself right now. But I can dream up ideas anyway, right?
Wow, this jacket is being featured in this month's Threads! You MUST get the current issue -- there's a fantastic article about sewing with vintage patterns & they happen to use this very one! Not only that, but there's a photo of Kate Hepburn wearing the jacket, as well. If you own the pattern, I'll be your BFF if you let me copy it ... !!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I will have to go pick that issue up!! It looks great! Especially since I do a lot with vintage patterns.
ReplyDeleteI DO plan to purchase this pattern, actually. And you're welcome to copy it. hehe. I thought of you when I saw this pattern. :)
What a fabulous pattern! I LOVE Ms. Hepburn. Her pool scene in Philidalphia story is what I think of every time I have to go swim and it's six AM.
ReplyDeleteAhh... Philadelphia Story has got to be my all time favorite black & white movie. :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, I picked up Threads today and can't wait to go through it!!
I hadn't realized that the pattern is currently being commercially produced. I thought you'd found an old, out-of-print vintage pattern. So never mind -- I wouldn't have suggested sharing the pattern if I'd known!
ReplyDeleteYeah...I WISH I had found an old original pattern! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I absolutely drooled when I saw this pattern in Threads. Thanks for pointing out the commercially-available option! Although, $22 . . . I am so spoiled by Joann's sales! *blush*
