i really hate the mall.

we took silly tree-hugging pictures

But I went anyway yesterday morning with a few of my siblings. We heard that forever21 was opening a store near us and were giving away gift cards to the first 200. Yeah, we actually went and got in line, but we didn't try very hard to get there early. We still each got free $10 cards and did a bit of shopping. It was CRAZY. CRAZY. Like, what the heck was I thinking crazy. I got three long undershirts that I have been meaning to get and I got them for free. So that did make me feel good. But standing in line for all that time and watching how people acted as they ambushed the store, reminded me how much I dislike malls or any sort of shopping center. I looked at the quality of the stuff too and honestly, it's really cheap crap. Don't get me wrong, I have gotten stuff there before and I don't have a problem with buying things there on occasion, but it also helps me realize that their stuff really isn't very special. And just looking at all those shoppers...man. If you want to start hating people, go to crazy shopping malls where there is some sort of deal going on. Yikes. But I got my undershirts so I'm not complaining...much. When we got home, I phoned J and we headed to the Palisades, a ten minute drive from my place. It was great. We hiked all around the park, sat and enjoyed the view for hours. I will take nature any day over shopping malls.

  1. Hear, hear! I've come to a similar conclusion over the years. I now avoid the malls, but if I do find the need to go to one I go directly to the few stores I want to stop in and then get the heck out, usually without buying anything. Disposable fashion does have it's place, mostly for really trendy styles, but it is nice to have clothing that lasts for a long time too.

  2. AMEN! Most of the time I would rather invest in one really timeless well constructed piece of clothing, than hit the mall scene.

That's why I love your clothing line. unique and really timeless.

Smiles - and happy tree hugging.

  3. I have a love/hate relationship with the mall your talking about too, but I have to admit I'm so excited that a F21 is in it now! Just in time for me to move back to Iowa next year. =)

  5. I quite agree with you on malls! tee hee....they make me feel exhausted and drained. However, I do very much love trees, and your hugging-partner here looks quite lovely, indeed!! What a sweet photo!!

    Happy rest-o-the-weekend to You!! :)

  6. I concur, F21 is not of good quality, I also add H&M to the list. Hollister is much over priced and to walk in give me a headache from the music and the fragrance. In agreement with Julia Christie, it is better to have one timeless piece. Looking for quality vintage clothing is my obsession, to find the right piece, I get a thrill!

  8. Nature over people any day for me! I've had so many run-ins with nutty crowds of crazy people that I've long set my heart on living in the Scottish outer Hebrides, where I can have some water between me and them and socialise with whales and seal instead (in my dream world that is)!

  10. Hello! I found you through Eva Girl and am just loving your work and aesthetic.

Malls are definitely a place of last resort shopping for me. My friend and I refer to a trip to the mall as "going into the belly of the beast".

  11. Malls can be stressful - but at least you did something purposeful. I can't imagine spending an afternoon at the mall just meandering the stores.

  12. I hear ya! I live in the midst of suburbia, which means malls are pretty much my only option. But I hate them with a passion; especially when a big event (store opening/sales) is going on. lol. I think the only real reason I go to the mall anymore is for shoes or makeup at Sephora or MAC. lol. Otherwise, I really can't stand it. lol.

    Cute picture, btw!!! ;)

  13. Great tree hugging picture :-) And I absolutely agree with you. I love the fact that so many stores offer online services these days. If I can in anyway, I avoid big crowded malls, and enjoy a little nature any day!

  14. Me too! I couldn't agree more.. I'd take a slim wardrobe with quality, crafted pieces - made by creative young designers like you over a dresser busting full of cheap clothes sewn thousands of miles away any day.

To be honest, if I never went to another mall the rest of my life - I think I'd be just fine.
